Tidd Funeral Home (c. 1875-80)
5265 Norwich Street (Map No. 10)
The style of this property is similar to the frame dwelling attached to Otie’s Towne Pub.
The Gothic Revival or style of architectural characteristics are found in:
- the pointed arched windows on the gabled or triangular front; and
- round-headed windows on the ground level.
Later additions to the building include:
- the northern wing;
- both front porches;
- a rear addition which repeats the gabled roofline and window treatment of the original house.
The building still feels like a house even after being changed to a funeral home.
Years ago, when the building was being converted to a Funeral Home, the owners found a number of horse shoes and other items that indicated there may have been a blacksmith shop there one time. Some time after the home was a blacksmith shop, it was used as a boarding place for single teachers who came to the area to live here during the school year.
